United Wineries announces re-organisation

Published:  23 July, 2008

United Wineries International, the wine distributor & brand owner with annual sales exceeding 31m bottles, has finalised an internal reorganisation and major international acquisition plan, prior to its listing on the AIM-London Stock Exchange, scheduled for the first quarter of 2007.

United Wineries owns all wine brands marketed by the company and since 2001, has built a network of international wholly-owned distribution subsidiaries established in major wine markets - United Wineries Ltd in the United Kingdom, United Wineries A/S in Norway, United Wineries LLC in the United States, United Wineries SA in Switzerland and Bodegas Hispano Argentinas SA in Argentina. With 53% of the group's wine sales in the UK market, the company is based at a new head office in London.

A new management team has been put in place, chaired by Victor Redondo Sierra, who moved from Madrid to London in 2004, while the day-to-day management team is headed by Richard Macadam, who remains as managing director in charge of consolidated markets and acquisitions.

The company has also brought in Xavier Batlle - formerly Codorniu's international director - as the new managing director to head up the international expansion of the company, while the marketing team is now led by Pedro Eguizabal.

Following the acquisition in January 2005 of Norwegian wine distributor Helge Wiig A/S, the company acquired Argentinean winery Bodegas Pacheco Pereda last month, with two more set to take place within the next few weeks.
