Pol Roger moves into malt

Pol Roger UK has entered the Scotch sector after winning the UK distribution rights for Highland single malt Glenfarclas.

With effect from 1 August, Pol Roger will take over from Ian Macleod Distillers. Pete Donnelly, formerly of Ian Macleod, has been recurited to Pol Roger as divisional sales manager.

James Samson, marketing manager for Pol Roger, commented: It is a bit of a departure for us as we haven't distributed spirits for quite some time now. But with the recruitment of Donnelly - and the fact that our London on-trade sales manager has worked in the spirits business - we feel we have some expertise in the sector and are looking forward to having a real go at it.

Currently 90% of Glenfarclas is exported, so there is big opportunity for growth in the UK with the current popularity of high-quality single malts.

This does not represent a big move into the spirits business for Pol Roger. We are a relatively small company with a small sales force and we will have our hands full with Glenfarclas in the medium term - but if it proves to be something we are particularly adept at, we will consider it.'

Owned by J&G Grant, the Glenfarclas range starts at 22.99 for the 10 Year Old and moves up to 96.99 for the 30 Year Old. Special bottlings, such as the vintage dated 1954' (265), are also being offered.
