Edrington enjoys profits boost

Published:  23 July, 2008

The Edrington Group has revealed a growth in both group turnover (up 3.7% to 263.4 million) and operating profits
(up 6.5% to 71.9 million) following the recent announcement of its financial results for the year ending 31 March.

Chief executive Ian Curle has credited the success to the company's strategy of investment in its core brands - The Famous Grouse, Cutty Sark, The Macallan and Highland Park - including product development as well as advertising and promotions in global markets. According to Curle, the demand for The Macallan Fine Oak and The Famous Grouse Malt has 'grown significantly' in the past year, making them 'the most successful new product launches in the group's history'.

The Glasgow-based company cites Asia Pacific as the key growth area, but added: 'We are also experiencing strong performances in many mature markets, as consumers switch to more premium brands. This is consistent with a general trend towards more moderate consumption.' Investment into the premiumising of Scotch whisky brands is set to remain a focus for both The Edrington Group and Maxxium, its joint venture and UK distributor.
