KWV buys share in NMK

As reported in Harpers last month, South African producer KWV has bought a stake in NMK Schulz, a distributor in the Cape that handles wines such as Simonsig and Warwick, and also Stella Artois and Grolsch.

KWV chief executive Dr Willem Barnard said that the deal, believed to be a 25% stake in NMK, would help the wine and brandy producer's position in the on-trade.

Winecorp merger called off

A proposed merger between South African producers Winecorp and Cape Coastal Vintners/Strategy Partners has been scrapped.

Winecorp CEO Vernon Davis said last week that after three months of due diligence the proposed benefits of the merger would not be achieved.
