France and SA lose out under three-for-two'

Published:  23 July, 2008

France and South Africa are the big losers at Threshers since the introduction of its buy-two-get-one-free' offer.

Thresher trading director Alex Anson revealed the winners and losers at a debate sponsored by the French Wines campaign at the LIWSF.

He put South Africa's decline in sales of around a third down to a lack of consumer loyalty and awareness'. Threshers and Wines of South Africa are teaming up for a summer campaign to try and reverse this trend.

One bright spot for France was that in the Thresher Group's Wine Rack stores, French sales rose 71% in rebranded stores.

Overall, Australia continues to show growth, despite Threshers' level playing field' taking away the influence of deep-cut promotion.

California stormed ahead and now represents 20% of Thresher sales. New Zealand showed the fastest growth at 277%, with Spain showing 10% growth, and America level.
