Published:  23 July, 2008

Spanish producer Castillo Perelada has announced details of a new 18 million winery.

The winery, which is scheduled to open in September 2008, will be 14,000 sq m, and will have a capacity for 12,000 barrels and four million bottles.

The architect responsible is Spanish-based RCR, which has

completed projects such as the La Lira theatre in Ripoll, near Girona in Catalonia.

The new building will also feature poplar trees growing through' the winery, to help integrate the winery into the landscape of the area.

Castillo Perelada export manager Patrice Lesclaux told Harpers: We started to think about this project four years ago. We wanted absolutely to respect the present landscape, which is very hilly, and we didn't want to destroy that.

In the past five years, the company has almost doubled its turnover, and our present winery is a bit too small now.'

The new winery will also feature a tasting room, an aromas room', an audiovisual room and a shop.
