Shaw's eponymous range

Published:  23 July, 2008

Former Rosemount winemaker Philip Shaw is to launch an eponymous range of wines at next year's Australia Day Tastings.

Shaw is now managing winemaker at Orange-based Cumulus Wines, where he has been reunited with his former Rosemount/Southcorp chiefs Keith Lambert and Jeffrey Wilkinson. The four-strong, screwcapped range comprises:

the 2004 Shiraz (Philip Shaw No 89 - the year that the Koomooloo vineyard was planted), which includes 1% Viognier and will retail for 22;

the 2004 Chardonnay (No 11, the number of my dream Chardonnay plot', according to Shaw), priced at 17;

the 2004 Merlot/Cabernet/

Cabernet Franc blend (No 17, the sum of the plot numbers

in the vineyard), which will retail for 15; and

the 2005 Sauvignon Blanc

(No 19 - in memory of Shaw's friend Albert Chan, whose birthday was 19 August),

priced at 12.

Wilkinson told Harpers: It's the realisation of a 30-year dream for Philip to bring out his own wine.'

Wilkinson added that Cumulus, which launched its Climbing and Rolling ranges in the UK last year, would now be looking after its own distribution in the UK, and not under the auspices of D&D Wines, although he stressed that the split was amicable: We feel that our destiny lies best in our own hands, but we thank D&D for all their hard work.'
