Hardys hits 5M-case mark

Published:  23 July, 2008

Constellation Europe's Australian wine brand Hardys has become the first wine brand to sell more than five million 9-litre cases in the UK market in a year.
According to AC Nielsen MAT data for the on- and off-trade, the Hardys brand, which includes such names as Stamp, Nottage Hill, Crest, VR and numerous super-premium labels, sold 5.031 million cases in the year ending 3 September.

This is an historic first for Constellation and the Hardys brand in the UK,' said Constellation Europe's VP of brands marketing Clare Griffiths of a brand that was first launched in the UK in the early 1990s. With the recent news that wine has taken over beer as the nation's favourite alcoholic drink, and Hardys continuing to show good growth, we are now already looking to the next big milestone, the six-million-case record - and we are confident that Hardys will be the brand to break it.'

Another Constellation brand, Stowells, has also reached a milestone. The multinational brand reached sales of four million 9-litre cases for the same period. The brand, which was the first branded bag-in-box range when it moved to the format in 1981, has benefited from a 1-million marketing campaign in the past year and is now the UK's third-bestselling wine brand.
