Malvern hotel scoops top wine list award

Malvern hotel The Cottage in the Wood was chosen as this year's overall winner of the Cond Nast Johansens Champagne Taittinger Wine List Award 2006.

Also triumphing in the Hotels & Spas Wine List category, The Cottage in the Wood was said by judges to have a tour de force wine list, written with humour and passion... not only does it continue to surprise at the turn of every page with its wide selection, but one is amused by its quirky touches'. The judges particularly like the Fast Track list and the introductory welcome to my wine list' section.

Knockomie Hotel in Morayshire was chosen as the winner of the Country Houses, Small Hotels and Inns Wine List category, while the winner of the Recommended Venues category was Warren House in Kingston, which found favour for its very extensive list that meets the expectations of its diserning corporate and special event guests'.

The judges for this year's awards were Harpers editor Christian Davis, Janice Coppen-Gardner, publishing director of Cond Nast Johansens, and Justin Llewelyn, UK ambassador for Champagne Taittinger.

Llewelyn commented: The scope of entrants this year was exceptionally high and we received the most entries to date.'
