Beaujolais on the up

Published:  20 May, 2019

Exports of Beaujolais to the UK rose 35% in volume and 9% in value year on year from February 2019, according to InterBeaujolais.

Meanwhile exports of Beaujolais AOP rose by 194% in volume and 120% in value. Beaujolais Villages AOP increased exports to the UK by 22% in volume and 15% in value over the same period.

“We are delighted to see continued growth in Beaujolais exports to the UK,” said Anthony Collet, marketing and communication director for InterBeaujolais. “With an increased effort on trade activities regionally and looking ahead to our annual tasting next month, we feel confident for the future of this very important market for Beaujolais.”

InterBeaujolais will host their 2019 annual tasting on 10th June at the ICA in central London, featuring a wide range of wines from different producers including wines from Beaujolais, Beaujolais Villages, Chénas, Chiroubles, Côte de Brouilly, Fleurie, Morgon, Moulin-à-Vent, Régnié, Juliénas, Brouilly and Saint-Amour.

In total, there will be wines from 75 producers, of which 38 are seeking distribution.

Two masterclasses will also be available, focusing on the diversity of winemaking techniques from Beaujolais, hosted by Natasha Hughes MW, and decoding the terroirs of Beaujolais hosted by Joe Wadsack.

“There’s a lot of Beaujo love in the UK and we look forward to welcoming the trade at the ICA in June,” added Collet.
