Malux to launch Vida at Hungarian tasting

Published:  25 January, 2019

Hungarian food-and-wine wine specialists Malux are gearing up to launch four wines from Szekszard estate Vida at their upcoming trade tasting – including a Kadarka from rare 100-year-old vines.

The family run winery specialises in red wines from the south of the country, with classic, Kadarka, Kekfrankos and Bikavér varietals forming the backbone of the range.

“We are thrilled to be working with the lovely Vida family and adding these stunning red wines from the Szekszard region to our portfolio,” said Audrey Zarach of Malux Hungarian Wine.

“Their uniqueness and Peter [Vida]’s passionate approach are exactly what we are about…The delicious Bonsai Kadarka, an on-trend light red similar to Pinot Noir; a refined Kékfrankos; an elegant Bikavér (Bulls blood) and the winery’s flagship wine La Vida are made only in exceptional vintages.”

The range recently underwent a rebrand after collaborating with Spanish graphic designer Xavier Bas.

Each label is designed to reflect the wine’s story.

The Bonsai Kadarka, made from vines over a century old, was given its name after a Japanese visitor likened the short, gnarly vines to the Bonsai tree.

“Often you literally have to kneel in front of the rootstocks to prune them as these are ancient bush-trained vines,” winery founder Peter Vida said. “The image on the label – a mix of a Bonsai tree and an old vine – aims to convey the sense that the wisdom of the plant is bigger than that of humans even if it is diminutive in size.”

The wines retail for between £20 and £25 and will be available to taste Malux Hungarian Wine’s trade tasting at Ognisko, 55 Princes Gate, London, on the 4th February 2019.
