Paul Symington to step down as chair
Paul Symington is stepping down as chairman of Symington Family Estates at the end of this year following a 40-year career in the family business.
Symington, a major and well-respected figure in the trade, will be succeeded by Johnny Symington.
Before stepping down, Paul will be hosting an Aged Tawny tasting on 8 November at the Tower of London alongside Charles Symington, with the duo having selected some of Symington’s finest and rarest Tawny Ports from Warre, Dow, Cockburn’s and Graham’s, including the release of the new Single Year Colheita Tawny from one of the most celebrated years of the 20th century for Port, 1963.
The tasting marks the last for Paul as chairman.
One of the leading Port producers, Symington Family Estates is an entirely family-owned and managed company responsible for the making of approximately 32% of all premium Port.
Five of the family, Paul, Johnny, Rupert, Dominic and Charles work together maintaining the vineyards and making the wines of their four historic Port houses: Graham’s, Cockburn’s, Dow’s and Warre’s.
The family also owns Quinta do Vesúvio, one of Portugal’s greatest vineyard estates.
