Condor Wines agrees deal with Bouchon Family Wines
Condor Wines, the specialist South American wine importer, has agreed a partnership with Chilean wine producer Bouchon Family Wines.
Lee Evans, founder and MD of Condor Wines, believes Bouchon will help it better represent Chile within its portfolio and strengthen its specialism for South America. He argues that the UK market is not reflecting the diversity of Chilean wines on offer.
“We have been seeking to better represent Chile and it is the role of the specialist to discover something unexpected, so we have been searching for wines that will delight and surprise our customers…we believe we have found this in the wines produced by Bouchon,” he said.
The Bouchon philosophy is to make wines with a ‘sense of origin’. Its Granito Semillon is made from 70-year-old vines grown in granitic soils in the Maule Valley, close to the Pacific Ocean.
Condor said it was attracted to the winery because it is at the forefront of the ‘New Wave Chile’ movement, and also its success with the País Salvaje, a wine made with wild País grapes, which grow in a forest and require hand harvesting on ladders.
General Manager Juan Bouchon said: “The UK is a key market for our wine and we sought a new partnership that would properly represent the effort and passion we instil in our wines; Condor Wines is such a company and we are confident that working together we can build significant success in UK.”
Condor Wines was established in 2011 by Lee Evans and his Argentine wife Maria. They work with 8 producers in Argentina, 4 in Chile and 4 in Uruguay and the portfolio include the key varieties, regions and price points from these regions.
The importer only works with distributors and does not sell direct to the public or the independent on- trade.
