The Institute of Masters of Wine (IMW) has appointed Adrian Garforth MW as its new chairman.
Garforth, CEO of New Zealand’s Yealands Wine Group, steps into his new role with immediate effect taking over from Jane Masters MW, whose tenure came to an end today (12 September).
As chairman, Garforth will head up the IMW’s Council, a board of international MWs, which is responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the IMW.
A biochemistry graduate from Bath University, Garforth has worked in the wine industry for more than 30 years holding senior operational and commercial roles and set up his own business in 2003.
He has worked in South Africa, London, Jamaica and Russia, before the move to New Zealand as Yealand’s CEO. He became an MW in 1993, whilst working for Diageo.
Having been a member of the IMW for more than 25 years, Garforth said he was “delighted to become chairman at such a buoyant time in the organization’s history”.
At the end of last month, the IMW announced 10 new MWs taking the total number to 380 working in 30 countries.
