Aldi launches orange wine

Published:  07 August, 2018

Aldi has added Cramele Recas’ natural and vegan Orange wine to its portfolio.

The wine, which is set to hit the discounter’s shelves this Saturday (11 August) as part of its August Wine Festival, will come with a £5.99 price tag making it the cheapest on the market, according to Aldi, which also claims to be the only UK supermarket selling the style.

Made with 85% Chardonnay and 15% Sauvignon Blanc grapes, the 12.5% ABV wine has the complexity of a red wine with the freshness of white, with this variant distinctive by its “exuberant nose” of vanilla, peach and apricot fruit, said Aldi.

Although orange, also referred to as amber, wine is becoming “more popular than ever” throughout the wine world - and is already sold by many independent merchants across the UK with an increasing awareness and interest in the tipple from Brits, it has yet to become mainstream, said Aldi’s wine expert Sam Caporn MW.

“In the UK orange wine has yet to be made available to supermarket shoppers so it’s exciting to see Aldi opening up this sought-after style to its customers,” she said.

Orange wine, which has become popular in Italy and Canada, is named after its amber hue caused by a long fermentation
