Justerini & Brooks adds first Austrian producer

Justerini & Brooks has signed a deal as the exclusive UK distributor of Austrian estate Muhr-Van der Niepoort.

As part of the deal, which takes place with immediate effect, Justerini & Brooks has introduced three of the producer’s wines to the UK; Samt & Seide - a pure Blaufrankisch, a single vineyard Ried Spitzerberg and a Gruner Veltliner.

Based in the eastern region of Carnuntum - one of the warmest and driest part of Austria, Muhr-Van der Niepoort’s production is small and organic, with the estate comprising 12 hectares.

As a merchant with a long and well-established position in Germany, the new distribution deal marked Justerini & Brooks’ first “real venture” across the border to Austria, said Mark Dearing, assistant buyer, Justerini & Brooks.

“We are thrilled to have corrected that and believe that these are some of the best wines coming out of Austria,” he said.

All the wine produced by Muhr-Van der Niepoort is made with hand harvested grapes, with the winemaking centred on traditional methods, including foot treading, wooden fermenters and no pumps, before extended ageing in large wooden fuders.
