Top US organic producer Bonterra joins Enotria&Coe

Published:  08 March, 2018

Enotria&Coe is increasing its stall of organic wines via leading organic producer Bonterra.

The Concha y Toro owned Mendocino County estate, which already has a presence in the UK, is known for its varietal wines made from nearly 1,000 acres of organic vineyards in northern California.

As of March 12, the winery will officially begin its partnership with Enotria&Coe UK, having been previously distributed by Concha y Toro's UK office.

With a focus on organically farmed grapes, the range being helmed by Enotria&Coe in the UK will be underpinned by the work of both winemaker Jeff Cichocki and founding winemaker Bob Blue and a belief in “vigorous biodiversity and healthy soils” according to the company.

Organic wines have shown some upward movement in recent months, with younger drinkers helping to boost value sales of organic wine up by 22% in the year to December 31, compared with less than 3% growth in non-organic for the same period (Nielsen Scantrack).

Last year, Bonterra celebrated 30 years of organinc farming having been founded in 1987 by Fetzer Vineyards – one of the original pioneers in sustainable and organic practices that are become increasingly commonplace in today’s industry.

Chilean company Vina Concha y Toro bought Fetzer in 2011 for $238 million.

On the back of buoyant organic growth, Enotria&Coe’s buying, marketing and retail director Jon Pepper MW confirmed the range’s quality and “solid global presence” would be a match for the distributor’s cross-channel growth strategy.

Rodrigo Maturana, Bonterra Organic Vineyards vice president of marketing and exports, added: “The UK is a sophisticated market and well suited for our range. We have a strong history here and we look forward to growing our presence in this key market. Enotria&Coe are the ideal partner to help us achieve this; with their expertise in multiple channels and the breadth of our portfolio, we have never been more confident in Bonterra’s future.”
