Price-savvy Enotria to introduce new wines at tasting

Enotria&Coe has added a host of new wines to its portfolio in response to soaring prices, said buying, marketing & retail director Jon Pepper, as the distributor prepares to welcome more than 100 wine producers for its annual tasting at the Saatchi Gallery on 6 February.

“We understand the importance this year of a strong commercial offer, so are launching a number of new wines to help customers minimise cost increases, including our Stormy Cape range from South Africa, and our new Italian Da Vinci wines,” said Pepper.

“We continue to be buffeted by the winds of political and economic change, and 2018 presents a challenging climate for our industry. In the 2017 vintage we also face the smallest global wine harvest in decades, due to a series of droughts, frosts and hail across Europe and the New World. This has resulted in shortages of wine and dramatic pressure on prices.”

Other additions to the portfolio are at the higher end of the price spectrum, however. Enotria&Coe has become exclusive UK distributor of Champagne Alfred Gratien and is also launching Laporte Sancerres and a range of wines from the Pfaffl region of Austria.

“Spanish whites are enjoying a renaissance, and we’ve added an outstanding pair of Godellos from Capellanes, as well as Mar de Frades Albariño,” said Pepper, adding that a number of Australian wines have joined the portfolio.

“Hunter Valley producer Mount Pleasant’s aged Semillons offer extraordinary value and deserve a place on any wine lover’s list.”

Following the poor harvests of 2017, others have tipped Eastern European wines for further growth. According to the International Organisation of Wine & Vine, Romanian and Hungarian production increased last year.
In 2017, Czech and Bulgarian wines entered the top 10 list of winners at international fine wine competition Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.
