WSET unveils first tasting app
The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) has launched its first tasting app.
The free WSET Tasting Notes app, available through iTunes and GooglePlay now, has a built in lexicon that allows professionals and enthusiasts to write tasting notes using WSET’s trademark Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT).
Quick and simple to use the tool, which included pro tips and the option for blind or known tastings, would help users create “structured and consistent” wine notes, said WSET, adding it was the perfect app for both its students and “those purely drinking for pleasure”.
The app is built on the trademark WSET Level 2 SAT, with simple steps allowing wine drinkers to make detailed and consistent notes when tasting wines, storing all of their notes for easy access on their device.
When adding a note, tasters can choose between knowing what they are tasting or tasting blind, and can add a photo of the wine label to help with easy recognition.
The app includes: A database of more than 300 wine producing countries and regions; over 100 pre-populated grape varieties; a comprehensive lexicon of commonly used aroma and flavour descriptors; pro tips to guide you through the app; blind tasting notes mode; search function to review stored tasting notes; ability to upload a photo to wine notes and simple, easy to use interface to record and store tasting notes.
