The academy which aims to find "Champagne's future stars" and is operated by top Champagne houses has appointed a new chairman.
Kevin Skeet, group operations director for hospitality group Legacy Hotels and Resorts, will assume the yearlong role taking over from Philip Amps, of Amps Fine Wines.
The appointment was announced at the academy's AGM last night, as was the announcement that Champagne Pommery will act as the Presidential House for the next twelve months, a role which rotates between the houses each year.
The Champagne Academy was founded in 1956 as a collaboration between sixteen Grande Marque Champagnes, with the aim of offering unrivalled Champagne education to a select group of candidates from across the UK and Ireland.
Each year, sixteen candidates are selected to attend an in-depth course in the region for the duration of a week.
This year, the academy has reported receiving a record number of applications across the wine and hospitality sectors - a signal, the academy says of the growing recognition of the academy in the UK, Champagne's biggest export market.
The names of the sixteen 2017 Champagne Academy candidates will be released over the next few days.
