M&S is launching a pioneering new range of lower alcohol wines.
According to the Office of National Statistics, millions of people are consuming more alcohol than they realise, unaware of the volume of actual alcohol level in their wines, which has risen steadily over the last 30 years. The M&S L%wer Alcohol wines have been specifically designed to address this situation.
The three new wines, a red, white and ros, made using conventional wine making techniques, boast a naturally lower alcohol content (9.5% ABV). The 50cl bottles contain five units of alcohol, allowing two people to share a bottle and still stay within the government's sensible daily drinking recommendations, of no more than 2-3 units for women and 3-4 units for men. (Although not if you are driving!).
Additional guidance is offered in the form of the recommended daily allowance details and actual alcohol units per bottle and per glass, printed on the back label
.
M&S Wine Technologist Sue Daniels, commented on the M&S L%wer Alcohol range: "We are committed to responding to our customers' needs. The new wines offer clarification and guidance, and not only are they lower in alcohol, but they also offer all of the quality and flavour expected of an M&S wine."
Notes:The range comprises of M&S L%wer Alcohol Verduzzo 2007, Raboso Ros 2007 and Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 all 50cl and priced 3.49
