Gaelic Collection launched
A new range of whiskies has been launched by Praban na Linne, which is based on the Isle of Skye. The Gaelic Collection comprises five whiskies, all of which are unchill-filtered.
Te Bheag (pronounced chey vek', meaning wee dram') is a blended whisky, and retails for 16.99. The rest of the range are all vatted malts of various ages, under the Poit Dhubh (pronounced potch goo', meaning illicit still') name. The 8 Year Old retails for 22.49; the 12 Year Old for 27.49; the 21 Year Old for 49.99; and the 30 Year Old for 149.99. The Gaelic Collection will be represented by Emporia Brands in England.
The company says that the Poit Dhubh whiskies blend Islay peatiness and Speyside sweetness for a uniquely sweetly peaty taste profile - much less powerful than normal Islay whisky'.
The Spencerfield Spirits Company is relaunching two whiskies with the help of master blender Richard Paterson - Sheep Dip, a vatted malt; and Pig's Nose, a blend.
Sheep Dip (RRP 23) gets its name from when farmers used to hide their homemade whisky from the taxman in barrels labelled with the name; Pig's Nose (RRP 17) - as soft as a pig's nose', according to the company - is a more delicate whisky, and features soft pink and warm-toned' packaging. Both whiskies are distributed by Malcolm Cowen, and Gordon and MacPhail.
