The Drinks Roadshow stopping off in Edinburgh tomorrow

Published:  27 June, 2016

There is one more day to take us up on our open invitation to visit the Harpers and The Drinks Wholesaler team when our free trade event stops off in Edinburgh tomorrow (June 28).

The Drinks Roadshow is currently on its way to Scotland, where it will be setting up its third free tasting and networking event for the trade.

This is a not to be missed opportunity for regional independent drinks and hospitality businesses to find out what is going on north of the border.

The event is also a chance to sample some of the Scottish gins making waves in the market including Edinburgh's Ian Macleod, Porter's Gin from Aberdeen, Makar Glasgow Gin and Strathearn Gin from Perthsire.

Scottish gin has become a major player in the Scottish economy in recent years with nine new Scottish gins springing up in the last year alone.

Gin now contributes £1.76bn to the UK economy and 70% of this is produced in Scotland.

Scots drank 29 million litres of gin last year with 42% consumed by 18 to 34-year-olds and 27% by over 45s and Edinburgh drinking more gin than any other city in the UK.

Scottish gin is now shipped to 139 countries and St Andrews distiller Eden Mill recently secured a £1.5m deal to distribute their gin in China.

Ronnie Somerville, founder of restaurant bookings website 5pm, which produces the popular Gin Map of Scotland, said: "Gin has experienced a phenomenal rise recently.

"With Scotland's rich history of distilling matched with the best natural larder in the world, the growth of locally created Scottish gin feels like a natural progression."

If you are a regional wholesaler, restaurateur, bar manager, wine merchant or publican looking to jazz up your drinks offering then head to The Drinks Roadshow at Checkpoint, 3 Bristo Place, Edinburgh, EH1 1EY, from 12 to 5pm on Tuesday, June 28.

Other exhibitors include Alliance Wine, Morgenrot Beer & Wine Shippers, Masons Dry Yorkshire Gin and Torres.

The event is run by Harpers' sister magazine The Drinks Wholesaler.

There's no need to sign-up, just come along on the day.

If you wish to sign-up beforehand however, email sarah.stevens@agilemedia.co.uk
