Seventeen Great Value awards were handed out at this year's International Wine Challenge, with Marks & Spencer being most awarded, taking home four awards, and dethroning Tesco which has reigned for the past two years.

Fifteen out of the 17 awards went to supermarkets own-brand wines, with some being priced as low as £5, signalling the real winner this year is the customer.

"Here we have 17 fabulous wines which belie their modest price tags and prove you don't need a huge budget to impress your friends and family. Not only are they very reasonably priced, they are also readily available in supermarket ranges and high street stores meaning you can easily get your hands on them," said Charles Metcalfe, co-chairman of the IWC.

To qualify for an IWC Great Value award a wine must have been awarded a Gold or Silver medal, be available nationally, and must not exceed £15 for still and sweet wines and can't be more than £25 for sparkling.
