Hallgarten bolsters Argentinian offer with Piattelli listing

Published:  03 February, 2016

Leading UK distributor Hallgarten is to launch Argentinian winery Piattelli in the UK as demand for Argentine wines from its customers grows.

The wines will be introduced to the trade at Hallgarten's trade tastings this month.

Founded in 2002, Piattelli has vineyards in Mendoza and Cafayete in the desert foothills of the Andes. Two of its vineyards - Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco, situated in Agrelo, Mendoza - are certified organic.

Its Mendoza winery as a 40,000 case capacity and operates one of the only gravity-flow vinification systems in Argentina.

The principal varietals grown by Piattelli are Malbec, Torrontes and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Steve Daniel, head of buying at Hallgarten, said: "When I was introduced to these wines, my first thought was, 'Why are they not represented in the UK?'

"I tasted the entire range and was very impressed.  The winemaker, Valeria Antolin, absolutely knows her stuff and makes very elegant wines with a really pure fruit expression.
