Published:  15 January, 2016

Bouvet Ladubay, the largest producer of traditional method sparkling wines in Saumur, has launched a demi-sec red sparkling wine, Bouvet Rubis, in Majestic.

It is the first time the house has used Cabernet Franc to produce a sparkling wine.

Bouvet Rubis is non-vintage and has an abv of 12.5%. Sommelier Olivier Poussier recommends it be paired with raspberry sorbet macaroons. Other recommended pairings include English blue cheeses and duck breast.

Demi sec red sparkling wines are traditional to the Saumur region.

Founded in 1851, Bouvet Ladubay produces some six million bottles anually. It exports around 60% of its wines to over 45 countries worldwide.

The estate was reacquired by the Monmousseau family from Diageo towards the end of last year.

The family has managed the house continuously since 1932, but sold it to Champagne Taittinger in 1974.

Juliette Monmousseau, chief executive of Bouvet Ladubay, said: "We are thrilled that Bouvet Rubis is launching in the UK and so far we have seen a very positive response from consumers in Majestic.

"Following the reacquisition of Bouvet Ladubay, our main aim is to ensure the continued development of our business.

"Bouvet Rubis is a perfect example of our aim to inject innovation and surprise into our wine range."

Bouvet Ladubay is based in St Hilaire St Florent. It is the leading visitor attraction in the Maine & Loire, with over 40,000 visitors per year.
