French fashion house Chanel has made its first move into the US wine trade.
The privately-owned company has bought Rutherford's St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery in Napa Valley for an undisclosed sum.
Chanel already owns the Château Rauzan-Segla and Château Canon vineyards in Bordeaux.
St. Supéry was opened in 1989 by Robert Skalli. It comprises two estates, Dollarhide and Rutherford.
Together, the two estates have over 500 acres of vineyards in over 1,500 acres of land.
Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon are the principal grape varieties, although the winery also grows Merlot, Chardonnay and Muscat Canelli, among others.
Skalli said: "I am delighted to hand over St. Supéry to such a well-regarded company that understands luxury brands and will continue to enhance this special property.
"I am confident that they will continue my vision of a Napa Valley Chateau, crafting world-class estate wines, and will build on that foundation, ever improving quality."
St. Supéry owns the Élu and Virtú wine brands.
