Pilsner Urquell's tank beer concept hits the north

Published:  09 October, 2015

Pilsner Urquell Czech lager has rolled out its tank beer concept to northern England.

Tanks have been installed at Headrow House in Leeds and Albert's Schloss in Manchester with more in the pipeline.

The concept has sold over 500,000 pints since it was introduced at venues in London and Cambridge in 2013.

It delivers a fresh, unpasteurised version of the famous Cezch beer, the original pilsner from the town of Plzen that gives the beer style its name.

Beer is delivered direct from the Czech brewery in temperature-controlled trucks to tanks on the venue's premises.

Gary Haigh, managing director of UK supplier Miller Brands, said: "There is so much passion for tank beer in the UK, from both our customers and their consumers.

"The reasons behind the success and growth of the brand are down to its provenance, authenticity and great taste."

Jez Manterfield, general manager of the White Horse in Parsons Green, one of the London bars that already stocks tank beer, said: "Having the tanks inside our pub has not only created a great talking point because they are so visible, but has helped to deliver great tasting beer.

"Unpasteurised tank beer offers customers something really special."
