Cube wins Vinho Verde account

Published:  05 August, 2015

Portuguese wine region Vinho Verde has appointed drinks-sector communications specialists, Cube to handle both consumer- and trade-facing PR.

Cube won the account after a competitive tender process. It has developed a comprehensive campaign to raise awareness of Vinho Verde in the on- and off-trade, as well as among consumers.

Cube will also implement Vinho Verde's UK digital and social media strategy.

The UK is an increasingly important export market for Vinho Verde, with export growth only matched by that in Germany and Brazil.

This reflects the strength of Portuguese wine overall in the UK. Sales of all Portguese wines grew by 10% between 2013 and 2014.

Best known for its white wines, the region also produces red and sparkling wines which are now beginning to win wider recognition.

The campaign Cube has developed for Vinho Verde includes bespoke press trips and tastings to introduce both trade and consumer audiences to the diversity and quality of wines from the region.

Carla Cunha, Vinho Verde's marketing director, said: "This is a major UK PR push for Vinho Verde as we look to increase awareness and strengthen demand for the wines in the competitive UK marketplace. Through the successful education of consumers we believe that Vinho Verde can become a real challenger in the UK wines category."

Chris Mitchell, director at Cube Communications commented: "We're delighted to be working with Vinho Verde and promoting this fantastic Portuguese wine region to consumer and trade audiences in the UK. Our aim is to engage and educate in compelling way that encourages trial and purchase."

Cube was founded by Chris Mitchell and James Gabbani in 2001. Clients include Mo?t & Chandon, Codorníu, E&J Gallo Winery and Tesco BWS.
