THRESHERS DUMPS FOOD

Published:  23 July, 2008

The Thresher Group is abandoning its Threshers + food' retail concept after admitting that sales of its ready meals and sandwiches were unsustainable in the long term'. The concept was launched in 75 London stores last summer - backed by an extensive advertising campaign in the press, on billboards and on the London Underground. The Leaping Salmon brand under which the food was sold, and which the group bought for an undisclosed fee in 2003, is apparently up for sale. Group chief executive Roger Whiteside said the company was unlikely to sell perishable food again in the foreseeable future. Some of the affected stores will be rebranded as a new wine specialist retail brand, to be launched in the summer.
