White Zin is "New Age Lieb"

White Zinfandel to replace ros

White Zinfandel from California could be the "New Age Liebfraumilch or Lambrusco" according to John Mills, managing director of Matthew Clark Wines. The company has just introduced Paul Masson White Zinfandel, replacing the ros in the carafe range. "I think it is going to be big," Mills told Harpers. "It is huge in the States. Light tannins, lighter colour, high sweetness, lighter in alcohol - it is a very approachable wine, particularly for young women. "I believe it is the New Age' Liebfraumilch or Lambrusco," he said. Mills believes that the combination of the White Zinfandel varietal and its provenance in California could spark a reappraisal of the ros/blush sector. The rsp is 3.99. It arrived in the UK January 2001. "Due to market demand for single varietal ros style wines, we sourced White Zinfandel to replace the existing ros," said Matthew Clark Wines brand manager for California, Sarah Murphy.
