BII OPENS DOORS TO OFF-TRADE RETAILERS

Published:  23 July, 2008

The British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) has offered membership and support to all alcohol retailers in the off-trade. The BII, the educational body for the UK on-trade, made the announcement at a launch party at Vinopolis in south London. Membership of the BII is now open to licensed retailers and suppliers within the pub, hotel, restaurant, off-licence and convenience store sectors. The decision to open up membership was taken by the BII Council, and chief executive John McNamara said: Our move to support all alcohol retailers is a necessary stage of evolution for us and for Britain's licensed retailer industry. It is a very exciting new era. Everyone will benefit from the BII being able to influence standards of personal skills and career paths, business competence and social responsibility across the industry. We have the experience, the profile, the people, the national network and an expanding range of superb qualifications to raise levels of skill and knowledge and therefore support the highest standards of professionalism, career advancement and social responsibility within the wider industry.' The organisation also unveiled its new logo.
