LIBERTY GETS IN MOTION

Liberty, the upmarket department store, has turned to composer-turned-wine merchant David Motion to set up a wine concession in its central London store. The concession - The Winery at Liberty - is located on the second floor of Liberty's Tudor building, and is the first foray Motion has made beyond his original store, The Winery, in Little Venice. It will stock around a third of The Winery's list, which is all sourced and imported by Motion and his team and is particularly strong in Burgundy and Germany. Basically, Liberty was looking for someone to do this, and they just gave us a call and we said, "yeah, why not?" Motion told Harpers. It's a good fit. It's going to be an extension of what we do; all the wines will still be sourced by us, but there will be full-time staff devoted to this store.' Motion didn't rule out further expansion, if it felt right', although he did say that there were no plans for the immediate future. The agreement with Liberty is initially for a year, but it could be longer; we will see how things go. It's very exciting for us,' Motion added.
