Following this week's Wines of the Beautiful South tasting in London Harpers caught up with key figures from across the Chilean, Argentinian and South African wine industries to assess their thoughts on the UK wine market for their wines.

Ricardo Rabelo, chief executive, of Finca Flichman Argentina

How important is the UK market to you?

The UK is one of our biggest markets and we would like to see more presence for our brands within the on trade.

What are the biggest challenges in the UK?

The main challenge continues to be the difficulty to obtain more shelf space for Argentinian wines and the highly concentrated retail sector, but we as a company are fully prepared through our portfolio and commercial policy to face such challenges.

What is the main message you are trying to put out to the trade and to consumers?

Innovation from us and pleasure for our consumers when our wines are tasted and consumed.

How are economics at home affecting business abroad?

To deal with the current economic situation is not an easy task from a management point of view, but I rather prefer to see the positive side.  Argentina continues to have excellent conditions to produce outstanding wines to compete worldwide. We have the soil, the people, the sun, the know-how and we still have a lot to show in terms of diversification. We are not only Malbec.  We will continue to be a competitive country and Finca Flichman intends to be at the front of this.
