An Englishman and an American are the latest candidates to complete the three parts of the notoriously difficult Master of Wine exams. Liam Steevenson, a sales manager at Charles Steevenson Wines in Devon, and Jay Youmans, the owner and manager of Rock Creek Wine Merchants in Bethesda, Maryland (which imports and distributes New World wines in the US), both successfully completed their dissertations to become fully fledged Masters of Wine. Of the 93 candidates to sit one or both parts of the exam this year, six have now passed both (including one at first attempt), while a further three passed the theory exam and 17 passed the practical exam. Students from Austria, Canada, Chile, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, Norway, Spain and Sweden, as well as from the three course centres in the UK, US and Australia, were among those who passed one or both parts. It's a great achievement to achieve a pass in part or all of the Master of Wine examination, and I congratulate all our successful students,' said Robin Kinahan, chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine. I am particularly delighted to welcome both Liam and Jay as Masters of Wine.' The full results for 2004 will be published in November. There are now 243 Masters of Wine from 21 different countries.
