Published:  23 July, 2008

The first-ever wine auction in aid of The Wine & Spirit Trades' Benevolent Society takes place on 23 October at J Straker, Chadwick in Abergavenny in Gwent. The West of England Wine & Spirit Association, which is organising the event, is appealing for more donations. Donations so far include 1995 Chteau Latour; vintage Ports from top shippers; large-format bottles of Rioja, Navarra and Champagne; lunch for 12 with well-known merchant Bill Baker of Reid Wines; and a fully hosted box for eight on the first day of the 2005 Cheltenham Festival, donated by Diageo. The list closes in early September, and catalogues will be sent out at the beginning of October - call Straker, Chadwick on 01873 852 624 for a copy.
