Fraudster foiled by Flintshire TS

David Williams, a printer and graphic designer from North Wales, was sent to prison for 12 months following the seizure of 68 cases of "Bollinger Millenium Champagne", quantities of labels and a stock of Charlemagne perry which were found in his premises by Flintshire trading standards and police. Regional Wine Standards Board inspector, Roger Corbett, was thanked for his help in analysing samples and sighting the fraudulent Bollinger in Cheshire and the Midlands. The Wine Standards Board of the Vintners Company reported several instances of fraudulent Champagne, generally based on magnums of perry, and Harpers ran two reports, in the 30 July and 6 August 1999 printed issues, alerting the trade to the fraud.
