MORENO LOOKS TO LANGUEDOC

Published:  23 July, 2008

By Jack Hibberd

Moreno Wines is continuing to diversify outside its Spanish and South American heartlands by adding a further Languedoc agency to its rapidly expanding premium portfolio. The last few months have seen the west London-based importer sign up Saxenburg from South Africa and Penley Estate from Western Australia, while from the Languedoc-Roussillon region, the newest recruit Maz d'Auzires joins Jean Louis Denois and the British-owned Domaine de la Pertuisane. All the new agencies are premium producers with limited production. According to the company's chairman and founder Manuel Moreno, the wines are targeted at the independent and on-trade outlets where the premium Spanish wines it offers are popular. We currently can offer supermarket wines from Spain, Chile and Argentina and this won't change, but we didn't even consider looking for entry-level wines from other regions,' he said.
