CRU CLASSE SCREWCAP

Published:  23 July, 2008

The first-ever Bordeaux cru class wine to be sealed under screwcap, white Graves cru class Chteau Couhins-Lurton, will be available from the 2003 vintage. Two other unclassified chteaux in the Andr Lurton collection - Chteau La Louvire, also a white Graves, and Chteau Bonnet, from Entre-Deux-Mers will also be using the screwcap closure. The wines under the new closure will be sold in the UK, Germany, Scandinavia and Switzerland. James Ryland, commercial director of Andr Lurton vineyards, said: Serious people are persuaded that this is the best way to avoid cork taint.' Sales of Stelvin to producers in the southwest of France exceeded 15 million in 2003, a figure Stelvin producer Pchiny predicted would reach 60 million by 2006.
