Glenfiddich's Malt Mastermind competition heads home

Published:  20 September, 2013

The fourth Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind competition will take place in October and, for the first time, will see the final held in Glenfiddich's hometown of Dufftown.

The competition calls on entrants to display their creativity and knowledge of the whisky category by devising a signature serve for Glendiddich and winning over a panel of industry expert judges.

Six finalists will battle it out in the last round of the competition at the Glenfiddich distillery - tasked with creating a twist on the classic cocktail Rob Roy as well as their own innovative serve using Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old - and one will be named Malt Mastermind 2013.

As well as the prestigious title, the winner will be awarded £1,000, will be invited back to the distillery on an all-expenses-paid trip and will have the chance to taste a range of rare Glenfiddich expressions. They will also have the chance to sit on the judging panel for the 2014 competition.

Jamie Milne, brand ambassador for Glenfiddich, said: "The competition is now in its fourth year and the accolade of being named the Glenfiddich Malt Mastermind carries more respect and admiration among the trade than ever before. Previous winners have gone on to work for some of the best bars in the UK, and we're expecting a high standard of candidates again this year.

"This year we're raising the bar and adding a new element to the competition by hosting the final at the Glenfiddich distillery. Taking the finalists to Glenfiddich's homeland will enable the bartenders to fully immerse themselves in the brand, and the 2013 Malt Mastermind will be someone who truly embodies the pioneering spirit of Glenfiddich. The winner will understand the complexities of malt whisky and bring it to life for a new audience."
