Gaucho buys first Argentinian restaurant

Published:  06 September, 2013

Gaucho Group, the UK based Argentinian specialist restaurant group, has made its first entrance in to the South American restaurant scene with the purchase of Sucre restaurant and bar in Buenos Aires.

It follows a long standing partnership Gaucho has had with Sucre's executive chef Fernando Trocca, who has worked with the group for the last seven years and helped bring some more authentic Argentinian dishes to Gaucho's menus.

Sucre is not only widely acclaimed for its tapas style food but also has a wine list of featuring 12,000 bottles of Argentinian wine.

It was named number 29 in the 2013 Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants Awards.

Zeev Godik, chief executive of Gaucho Group, said: "I am so excited to be part of Sucre and have an opportunity to work with a fantastic team."

Charlie McLean, finance and commercial director at Gaucho Group, said: "We are delighted to have had the opportunity to invest in such a well known and established restaurant such as Sucre, to work with the founding partners who we already know and to learn from each other's experience.

Sucre has financially been a successful restaurant business since its inception and we believe it will continue to grow under this partnership that also gives Gaucho exposure to a new market and brings us closer to our brand routes."

Fernando Trocca added: "Sucre has seen success since opening in 2001. Sucre's style of contemporary Argentine cuisine and engaging atmosphere has meant that business has flourished in South America. Having worked with Gaucho in the UK and Dubai for seven years, I'm looking forward to continuing our success in Buenos Aires."
