Brintex, the team behind the London International Wine & Spirits Fair, is on the brink of a closing a deal to set up a similar trade fair in Russia. Exhibition director James Murray told Harpers: We are hoping to sign the final contract this week and the first event is planned for June 2004. It will be a small incubator show to put a toe in the water.' Russia is a huge potential market for French wine, according to Emmanuel Drion, dlgu gnral of Inter Rhne. The promotional body is targeting Russia, along with Poland and Hungary, with an initial marketing campaign aimed at the trade and press. Sales of Bordeaux and vin de pays have already started to make an impact on the market.
