Le Bon Vin takes on distribution for VinoServ

Sheffield-based independent wine merchant Le Bon Vin has become distributor for the VinoServ wine preservation system.

Sheffield-based independent wine merchant Le Bon Vin has become distributor of the VinoServ wine preservation system.

Engineered in Germany, VinoServ has been designed to provide a solution to the problem of waste wine. It works through the injection of Vinoconserv gas (a mixture of high-purity nitrogen and carbon dioxide) into an open bottle, which then covers the wine and preserves it from oxidisation for a number of weeks. The gas is non-toxic, odourless and tasteless, and there is no contamination of the wine itself.

Explaining his decision to get involved with its UK distribution, Le Bon Vin managing director Patrick Jouan said:  "I didn't trust the same systems on the market from past experience, and couldn't afford others that are available as they were too expensive. Then I discovered the VinoServ system in the village of St Emilion, where it was being used for wine that cost £100+ a bottle, and for this reason I decided to take on the distribution for the UK."

He added: "In the Le Bon Vin wine shop I have high-quality French wine bottles permanently open, and as this system is so reliable it keeps the wines fresh for three to five weeks after opening to enable our customers to sample the wines."

While VinoServ can be used at home, it is commercially suitable for small wine merchants and the on-trade.
