Bottle Green on acquisition trail for Discovery Wines

Published:  06 September, 2012

Bottle Green is on the lookout for further acquisitions and partnerships through its Discovery Wines arm of the business.

Following the recent acquisition of Discovery Wines in April, the new range available exclusively to service the on-trade and independents is already showing strong growth, according to Bottle Green.

Jon Eagle, managing director of Bottle Green, said: "We acquired Discovery Wines to grow scale and provide a level of diversification. We launched a new on-trade and independents range, which we are selling into regional wholesalers, and that's going really well. We are very pleased indeed with how it has started."

He added: "The market is difficult, like a lot of premium markets at the moment, but I would be reasonably confident in saying we're performing as well, if not better, than many of our competitors as we widen the number of producers we represent."

Bottle Green believes consolidation in the industry will continue and that scale and diversity is vital to provide growth opportunities in challenging times.

A core supplier to the off-trade multiples, it has "aggressive" plans to grow this in parallel with its intent to diversify into new channels.

"Acquisitions and partnerships can come in many guises and we are keen to grow all parts of our business. Our aim is to be one of the pre-eminent suppliers of wines, and potentially even a wider drinks offering, to all channels of trade in the UK," said Eagle.
