'WINE WAG OF THE YEAR'
Niepoort Port, sponsor of the Wine Wag of the Year' competition, has announced a winner: Henry Butler, co-proprietor of The Butlers Wine Cellar in Brighton. Speaking on behalf of the judges, Raymond Reynolds of the eponymous specialist agency house, said: Henry illuminates his customers, his suppliers, his peers and, quite frankly, anyone who will listen to him with a unique sense of humour. He's a one-off, and helps to make the wine trade more enjoyable for all who know him.' Asked to comment on his victory, Butler said: I feel quite honoured to be the recipient of this award, which I must admit to thinking was just a big wind-up. This merely confirms those suspicions. However, I am hoping it will add considerable gravitas to my jokes in future.' Butler will join the judging panel for the 2004 award when it meets in the New Year.
