The Great Northern Wine Company Limited has been sold to its former manager, Mark Ryan, according insolvency specialists, Wilson Pitts. The Ripon-based company specialises in supplying hotels and restaurants throughout the region and has a retail shop in Ripon. Great Northern realised it was in difficulty at the beginning of April, and enrolled Leeds-based Wilson Pitts (WP) as liquidators. On the advice of WP partner David Wilson, it decided that the company had a future and a buyer should be found. Wilson said: Mark Ryan's well established relationship with existing customers and suppliers helped to strengthen his case for taking on ownership of Great Northern Wine Company, providing it with a strong outlook for the future. The business will now continue to operate under his management and he plans to focus initially on the local retail market. The business is in a fortunate position thanks to its outstanding reputation and good customer base, which has retained the full support of the local market, all of whom are delighted to see the impressive Ripon shop remain open. We believe the business will have a prosperous future and continue to expand under Mark's leadership.'
