Laithwaites stocks Turkish wine
Laithwaites has added a Turkish wine to its portfolio as part of efforts to champion producers in lesser-known wine regions.
The Aegean Vinart Kalecik Karasi Syrah 2010 is reminiscent of a spicy Rhone "but the inclusion of dark local grape Kalecik Karasi gives an added fullness and richness," according to a spokesman. In Turkish the name of the Kalecik Karasi grape means "black from the little tower".
It is a blend of 60% Kalecik Karasi and 40% Syrah, from Ankara and Denizli. It has an abv of 14.5% and will retail for £10.99 per bottle, or £8.33 when bought as part of the Great Discoveries case.
The addition makes Laithwaites one of the first major UK off-trade retailers to stock Turkish wine. It joins the company's 1,400-strong global wine range, already featuring wines from other less well-known winemaking countries including Georgia, Greece and India.
