G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge Millésimé 2004 released

Published:  19 March, 2012

Pernod Ricard has released its 2004,  G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge Millésimé, from what is claims to be an "exceptional year".

Relatively dry with above average temperatures - particularly September, the below-average rainfall, lead to exceptional grape maturity, says cellar master, Didier Mariotti.

In line with house style, Pinot Noir (70%) dominates the blend with Chardonnay (30%) added for elegance and freshness.

In the 2004 the Grand Cru Pinot Noir villages of the Montagne de Reims dominate, Verzenay was added for freshness, Mailly for delicacy, Bouzy for balancing power, mellowed by the rounder crus of Ambonnay and Verzy.

The final blend also contains Pinot Noir from the Marne Valley (Grand Cru Aÿ and Premier Cru Avenay).

"We could have made a 100% Grand Cru wine, but for me the Premier Cru Avenay was an essential component in the blend" said Mariotti.

"When I taste and retaste the vins clairs my only objective is to select the very best wines that together produce the perfect vintage blend."

The wine is drinking now,  but will age for a decade or more.
