Roy Ackerman appointed Wine Guild chairman

Dr Roy Ackerman CBE, has been appointed chairman of The Wine Guild of the United Kingdom.

Ackermann has represented the Wine Guild at La Fédération Internationale des Confréries Bachiques FICB, conferences in Slovenia, France, Switzerland and Hungary in the past and will lead the British delegation to Serbia in June 2012.

The guild's purpose is to encourage the understanding and enjoyment of wine and support producers of the United Kingdom.

It fulfils its aims through its membership and its social activities and through the establishment of wine scholarships and annual awards

Ackermann's other honorary positions include; president of the Academy of Food and Wine Service, chairman of the Governors of the Academy of Culinary Arts, and honorary vice president of the Restaurant Association.

He was appointed OBE in 1990 for his contribution to tourism and training and a CBE in 2000 for services to gastronomy.

In 2010 he received the coveted Catey's Lifetime Achievment Award for the hospitality industry.
