Laithwaites Wine has extended its Christmas order cut-off date until 1pm on December 22, in order to cater for the last minute rush.
Last year the firm said it had a last minute surge between December 16 and 21, and based on the Eptica Christmas 2011 Retail Experience Study nearly half (46%) of UK shoppers will be doing last minute online shopping this week.
Laithwaites Wine is offering internet shoppers the chance to order up to 1pm on Thursday December 22 (with next day delivery).
According to price comparison website Kelkoo, £1.05bn was expected to be spent on so-called "Panic Saturday" on the high street - making the weekend busier for UK shops than 2010 - although the weather last December did have an impact.
The survey showed that popular Christmas gifts are on average 12% more expensive than the best online deals this year.
